Japanese cookbook encourages use of condoms in sushi-making

A new book has an interesting idea about how to promote condom use in Japan. The Japanese cookbook hopes to raise awareness about safe sex — by encouraging the use of condoms in cooking.
The book features condom use in 11 recipes, including everything from "condom cookies" to condom sushi. Its authors, Kyosuke Kagami and Opanpon, wrote the book to raise awareness for condom use in Japan. Japanese condom usage has fallen in recent years, leading to a rise in HIV as well as other STDs, according to Global Issues. The authors hope the book will provide useful recipes but will touch on a more serious note as well.
The cookbook, whose title roughly translates to "Condom Meals I Want to Make for You," was released in Japan on Monday and is available as an e-book at Amazon for 250 yen, or $2.99 in the U.S. Kindle Store. --Meghan DeMaria
