A new Star Trek television series will debut in 2017, as the first original series on CBS All Access, CBS's new streaming service.

The first episode will premiere on the network in January 2017, with all subsequent episodes airing exclusively on CBS All Access, Deadline reports. CBS says expect to see new characters "seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966." The show, produced by Alex Kurtzman, is not related to any of the Star Trek movies, including the latest installment, next summer's Star Trek Beyond.
