Chipotle announced Wednesday it has been served a federal grand jury subpoena in the criminal investigation into the restaurant chain's norovirus outbreak in California. The subpoena, served in December 2015, requires Chipotle to hand over documents related to its Simi Valley, California restaurant, the site of the August 2015 outbreak.
Chipotle says it will cooperate fully with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the central district of California, which is working with the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Criminal Investigations.
The restaurant chain was also tied to 53 cases of E. coli in nine states last year and a norovirus outbreak in Boston that sickened 140.
