Stephen Colbert started out Thursday's Late Show talking about "the big celebrity feud everybody's talking about: Donald Trump versus the pope." As "America's foremost Catholic," he joked, he felt especially equipped to explain the squabble, poking fun at both public figures. Pope Francis suggested Trump is "not a Christian" because he wants to wall off the U.S.-Mexico border. "So Donald Trump wants to build a wall around this whole country. I wonder where he could have gotten a crazy idea like that?" Colbert said. "Maybe the Vatican?" After making a sign of the cross, he said, "I am in trouble."
"Now, I want to try to broker a peace between these two men," Colbert said. "Is it possible you're fighting because you have so much in common? After all, you both think you're infallible, and you both sit on golden thrones, and you both wear very silly things on your head." Watch Colbert tried to keep the peace, sort of, below. Peter Weber
