Watch Virginia McLaurin, 107, show off her basketball skills with the Harlem Globetrotters
Virginia McLaurin, 107, is on a roll.
Last month, the Washington, D.C., resident danced with the Obamas at the White House, and on Tuesday, she spent the day hanging out with the Harlem Globetrotters. Moose Weekes and Zeus McClurkin joined McLaurin at the school where she volunteers, the Roots Public Charter School, and taught McLaurin the basics of being a Globetrotter, starting with the spinning of a basketball on her finger. "I always watched them, and I tried to do what they do with the ball, but it didn't work," she joked.
After learning a few tricks and showing off some dance moves of her own, McLaurin gave the students a pep talk, encouraging them to listen to their parents and "go to school, get all the education you can get." McLaurin, who was 17 years old when the Globetrotters got their start 90 years ago, received a personalized jersey (#107, of course) and the team donated 107 tickets to see the Globetrotters play this weekend. Now, inquiring minds want to know: Who will McLaurin meet next? Catherine Garcia
