A 5-year-old Colorado girl was suspended from kindergarten after bringing a weapon to class — only that weapon was a $5 see-through plastic Frozen bubble blaster.

The girl's mother, Emma, told Fox that while she never would have knowingly let her daughter take the toy to school, the girl put it in her backpack before leaving the house.

The school responded in a statement saying that, "While we hear and understand the parents of this student being concerned about this discipline in light of the student's age and type of item, this suspension is consistent with our district policy… The bringing of weapons, real or facsimile, to our schools by students can not only create a potential safety concern but also cause a distraction for our students in the learning process."

Still, Emma stressed that the suspension will go on her daughter's record. "If they had contacted me and said, 'Can you make sure this doesn't happen again? We just want you to be aware,' I think that would have been a more appropriate way to handle the situation. Could we have a warning? It blows bubbles," Emma said. Jeva Lange
