Sometimes being a woman in the film industry can make you want to bang your head against a wall in despair. Consider this upcoming feature-length documentary about gender inequality in Hollywood — and then exhale loudly in disbelief when you realize it's being directed by a man:

The project is being produced by actress Geena Davis, who has been an outspoken advocate for increasing women's roles in the film industry and founded the Geena Davis Institute on Gender and Media. That just makes it all the more confusing that she is being joined by director Tom Donahue, who will helm the documentary according to Variety.

"I've been encouraged by my peers speaking out on gender disparity in recent years, but we still are not seeing the actual number change. There's been no real improvement in the number of female roles since 1946, and there's still a dearth of female directors," Davis told Variety — with apparently no acknowledgment of the fact she isn't exactly helping.
