Donald Trump officially taps Indiana Gov. Mike Pence for VP

On Friday, Donald Trump finally ended the VP speculation and announced — via Twitter, of course — that he has chosen Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) as his running mate:
The news came just an hour before Pence's noon Friday deadline to remove himself from the Indiana gubernatorial race. Trump previously said he would move his VP announcement from Friday to Saturday after Thursday's attack in Nice, France, before suddenly confirming the widely suspected choice.
Rumors were already swirling that Pence would be Trump's pick after Trump and his children met with the governor at his Indiana home earlier this week. Pence's name was also missing from the upcoming Republican National Convention speaking list. Pence, who surfaced on the nation's radar last year for signing a controversial religious freedom bill into law, is expected to bring the political experience Trump lacks and, as a religious man, further boost Trump's favor with conservative and evangelical voters.

The presumptive GOP nominee will hold a press conference about his pick Saturday at 11 a.m. in New Jersey. Pence was one of Trump's three VP finalists, alongside New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R).
