Newt Gingrich clarifies that Ted Cruz actually endorsed Donald Trump

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich began his speech on national security with a clarification. Donald Trump made an extraordinary effort to bring the GOP together, inviting his former rivals to speak "with no requirement for endorsement," he began. "I think you misunderstood one paragraph that Ted Cruz — who is a superb orator — said." Cruz had just declined to endorse Trump, despite boos and chants of "Endorse Trump!" and goading earlier in the night from Laura Ingraham. "So to paraphrase Ted Cruz," Gingrich said, "if you want to uphold the Constitution, the only possible candidate to support this fall is the Trump-Pence ticket."
Gingrich then went on to explain why Donald Trump would be better than Hilary Clinton when it comes to national security. "We cannot grow numb to these accumulating atrocities," he said. "The cost of Hillary's dishonesty could be the loss of America as we know it."
