On Friday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued a lengthy endorsement of Republican nominee Donald Trump, announcing he would be voting for Trump "after many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience." Cruz's endorsement announcement mostly concerned why Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is "wholly unacceptable" and included shockingly little about Trump's own qualifications — but Trump nonetheless issued a short statement Friday saying he was "greatly honored" by Cruz's gesture:
Cruz's endorsement comes after he told his party from the Republican convention stage in July to "vote your conscience," and very deliberately declined to endorse Trump.
