Police in the German city of Chemnitz are hunting a 22-year-old Syrian man named Jaber al-Bakr after confiscating explosive materials from his apartment. The suspect is believed to have been planning a bomb attack and several other people who may be connected to the plot have already been detained by law enforcement.

A police representative, Tom Bernhardt, said the "where, when, how, and why" of the possible attack remains unknown, and the explosives were "relatively well hidden" in al-Bakr's apartment. The manhunt has been described as a "large-scale" operation by police on Twitter, and residents of the region are encouraged to remain indoors.
