New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is losing his job as chairman of President-elect Donald Trump's transition team, The New York Times reported Friday. He'll be replaced by Vice President-elect Mike Pence. Christie was tapped for the position months ago, but the recent conviction of two of his former allies in the Bridgegate trial had left the status of his role in question; he'll instead serve as vice chair of the transition effort alongside former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Pence reportedly took over the position from Christie because Trump saw Pence's "Washington experience and contacts" as vital to moving quickly in the wake of their surprise victory in Tuesday's presidential election, The New York Times reported. Trump tweeted Friday morning that he will be making decisions "soon" on "the people who will be running our government."
