President Trump offered an update on Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) on Thursday, reporting that the lawmaker's recovery has been "much more difficult than people even thought at the time." Scalise was hit in the hip by a bullet when a gunman opened fire on Republicans practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game on Wednesday morning. He underwent surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the hospital said in a statement Wednesday night he remains in critical condition and will need to undergo more surgeries.
"He's in some trouble," Trump said. "But he's a great fighter and he's going to be okay, we hope."
Trump added that "we've got a lot of hearts in this country, great hearts, and they're all sending their love and support to the Scalise family."
