Nashville has reportedly won its bid for a Major League Soccer team, ESPN reports. An official announcement is expected Wednesday, with the second expansion spot likely going to either Cincinnati or Sacramento later this month.
Nashville was considered a long shot for expansion back when the candidates were announced earlier this year, but with the promise of a $275 million stadium, ESPN predicts a team will likely be on the field by the 2020 season.
Nashville SC, the city's new division II soccer team, will begin its inaugural season this spring. The eventual Nashville MLS team will join the Tennessee Titans NFL team and the Nashville Predators NHL team in calling Music City home.
