Watch John McCain tell his own story of service in speeches and interviews

Tributes to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) have come from friends, ideological opponents, former captors, leaders, and politicians around the world since his death on Saturday, with notable exceptions being Russia and the Oval Office. The leadership of both parties in Congress are bestowing on McCain the rare honor of having him lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda on Friday, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he will introduce a motion to rename the Senate's Russell office building after McCain. (The building is named after longtime Georgia Sen. Richard Brevard Russell, a Democrat and staunch segregationist noted for his mastery of parliamentary rules and procedures.)
Above all else, McCain is being remembered for his service to America, a theme McCain was proud to highlight himself. The Wall Street Journal curated excerpts of McCain's speeches and interviews over his long career, turning them into a short autobiography of service, starting with his enlistment in the Navy and ending in his tenure in the Senate. You can watch John McCain talk about his successes, his failures, and his love for America below. Peter Weber
