GOP Sen. Johnny Isakson says anyone who 'tarnishes' McCain's reputation 'deserves a whipping'
Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) has come up with a punishment for anyone who wants to besmirch John McCain, the late Republican senator representing Arizona.
"Anybody who in any way tarnishes the reputation of John McCain deserves a whipping," he said Monday on the Senate floor. "Because most of the ones who do the wrong thing about John McCain didn't have the guts to do the right thing when it was their turn." He added: "I would say to the president or anybody in the world, it's time to pause and say this was a great man who gave everything for us. We owe him nothing less than the respect that he earned."
During his tribute, Isakson said McCain was "better than me, and I know John was the best of my generation. John McCain was and is a great human being." He shared some personal stories, including what it was like when he went to Kosovo with McCain in the 1990s, and called him the "consummate cusser." They didn't always agree on everything, Isakson said, but he's "a better person, the country's a better country, and the world's a better place because of John McCain." Catherine Garcia
