GOP Sen. Jeff Flake: If FBI finds Kavanaugh lied to the Senate, his nomination is over
Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh better not have lied to the Senate.
In a 60 Minutes interview Sunday, Republican Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) was asked whether Kavanaugh's nomination would be over if the FBI finds he told the Senate Judiciary Committee a lie. Flake responded, "Oh, yes."
This interview comes after Flake forced the Senate to delay its floor vote so the FBI could spend a week looking into the sexual misconduct allegations against him. Kavanaugh denied the allegations under oath Thursday and also answered questions about his drinking habits. With the FBI probe underway, Kavanaugh is on thin ice; if Democrats stay united, Senate Republicans can't afford more than one defection in a confirmation vote.

Flake had not previously made clear what the FBI would need to find in order for Kavanaugh to lose his vote; he told The Atlantic Saturday that he plans to support Kavanaugh unless investigators "turn up something" because "I'm a conservative. He's a conservative." The FBI's background investigation into Kavanaugh, which is limited in scope, will conclude at the end of the week.
