Texas is sending its first 2 Latina women to Congress

Texas Democrats Veronica Escobar and Sylvia Garcia won their congressional elections on Tuesday, becoming the first Latina women elected to Congress. Escobar, a former El Paso County judge, will fill the seat vacated by Democrat Beto O'Rourke, and Garcia, a state senator, will represent a Houston-area district being vacated by Rep. Gene Green (D). Escobar and Garcia will also become among the first women to whom Texas has given full terms in Congress in more than 20 years, The Texas Tribune says.
