After President Trump wrapped up a nearly 90-minute press conference Wednesday, CNN's Jake Tapper began drawing comparisons to Martin Scorsese movies.
Trump had read off a list of Republicans who didn't sufficiently embrace him and who lost their elections, taking delight in this fact even though it helped Democrats gain the majority in the House. Though this came early in the presser, it was one of the first things CNN discussed after Trump wrapped up. "That's how gangsters act," said Tapper, drawing comparisons to films by Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.
He explained that, like a gangster, Trump is saying that these people "deserve the punishment" they receive because they're not loyal to him. Tapper also noted that Trump was "doing a dance on the graves" of these Republicans who "did not show him enough fealty," adding, "I've never seen a president take delight in people of his own party losing."
