President Trump looks set to issue the first veto of his presidency as Republicans in the Senate break from him.

The Senate on Thursday will vote on a resolution to terminate Trump's declaration of a national emergency on the southern border. After the Democratically-controlled House voted in favor of blocking the declaration, the Republican-controlled Senate is set to follow suit, and enough Republicans have said they will vote along with their Democratic colleagues for it to pass, per USA Today.

Trump has been working behind the scenes to earn Republican support on the vote and avoid a high number of defections, Politico reports. And the president made clear on Thursday that he is prepared to veto the resolution "if necessary."
