Trump administration will require drug companies to list prices in television commercials

Television advertisements just got a little more crowded.

The White House finalized a rule on Wednesday requiring pharmaceutical companies to include the prices of the drugs they are selling in television commercials, reports CNBC.

Currently, drug companies are required to list major side effects of a drug, but not the cost. The new requirement is part of a bipartisan effort to make drug prices more transparent amid a period of heightened drug costs.

Drug industry leaders may sue to block the rule, reports Axios, which only applies to drugs that cost more than $35 per month. Many drugmakers find fault with the new rule because it would only require advertising list prices rather than the actual cost of drugs after rebates and discounts, per CNBC.

The change is set to go into effect this summer.
