House Judiciary Committee subpoenas Lewandowski for obstruction testimony
The House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed Corey Lewandowski for testimony as part of its investigation into potential obstruction of justice by President Trump.
Trump's former campaign manager was issued the subpoena on Thursday, as was former White House aide Rick Dearborn, The New York Times reports. This comes as the House panel continues its probe into whether actions taken by Trump amid former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation may constitute obstruction of justice. In his report, Mueller declined to make a determination about whether Trump committed obstruction of justice, but he laid out instances of potential obstruction.
Although Lewandowski was not a part of the Trump administration, Trump directed him in 2017 to tell then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to limit the scope of the probe, according to the Mueller report. Dearborn was recruited by Lewandowski to deliver a message from Trump to Sessions saying as much, although he didn't end up doing so. The White House is looking into potentially invoking executive privilege to prevent Lewandowski from testifying, in spite of the fact that he did not work in the administration, CNN reports.

This subpoena comes just as Lewandowski is expected to appear at a Trump rally in New Hampshire, where he is mulling a possible Senate run. Trump spoke enthusiastically about that potential bid on Thursday, saying Lewandowski would make a "great senator" because he is "terrific on television."
