Less than 12 months after it was first unveiled, Land Rover has axed a limited-edition version of its Range Rover off-roader. The new car was due to roll off the car company’s production line later this year.
Unveiled at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the Range Rover SV Coupe was billed as a luxurious two-door version of the company’s popular SUV. It was due to be made by the company’s Special Vehicle Operations team in Coventry, Auto Express reports.
The limited-run model was available to order at a starting price of £240,000 shortly after it made its Geneva debut. But company insiders told the motoring magazine that some customers had been speccing their cars “up to the £340,000 mark.”

Land Rover confirmed today that it would be cancelling the project and said it had informed customers that the SV Coupe would not be made.
The British marque said it was planning instead to focus its resources and investment on “the next generation of world-class products.”
A Land Rover spokesperson told Top Gear that the project was not cancelled due to a lack of demand. He would not reveal how many of the the 999 examples of the Range Rover SV Coupe had already been sold.
The axing of the SV Coupe may be connected to Land Rover and its sister company Jaguar’s efforts to save £2.5bn over the next year and a half. This resulted in 4,500 jobs being cut earlier this month, says the motoring site.
