The White House announced Monday that President Trump has canceled a visit by the Philadelphia Eagles set for Tuesday because some players are taking a knee during the national anthem, in protest of police brutality in the United States.

The Eagles were supposed to visit the White House in celebration of their Super Bowl win earlier this year. In a statement, the White House said some members of the team "disagree with their president because he insists that they proudly stand for the national anthem, hand on heart." The White House claims that the Eagles asked to send a smaller delegation, but instead, the visit was canceled and the United States Marine Band and United States Army Chorus will perform during a "different" type of celebration. Several players had already said they would not be attending the ceremony.
