Wine of the week: a delicious Burgundy with a keen price tag

Money Week wine expert Matthew Jukes on his pick of the week

2015 Mercurey, 1er Cru Les Puillets, Chateau de Chamilly, Burgundy, France

In a region where prices have skyrocketed of late it is always a joy to find an estate that has a suite of stunning wines that show perfect accuracy, generosity of flavour and also keen price tags. This delicious Mercurey captures the splendour of the famous 2015 vintage and it also shows layers of pinot noir fruit and lustiness. There is a lot of wine here, and at 30 quid it is a steal – so hurry, as stocks are limited.

In addition, Chateau de Chamilly also makes two superb chardonnays – 2016 Montagny, Les Reculerons (£19.95) and 2014 Saint-Aubin, 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard (£34.95). While the Montagny is more linear and mineral-imbued, the Saint-Aubin hints at greatness with texture and a touch of exoticism.

All of my featured wines this week are drinking now, but they also all have enough energy and verve to evolve over the next two or three years. Do not miss out on these rare and rewarding wines.
