Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift split: best reactions on Twitter
'Hiddlesplit' prompts shock, tears and ideas for song lyrics, but many think it was a publicity stunt
After a very public three-month romance, British actor Tom Hiddleston and his American pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift have reportedly broken up, triggering a range of reactions on Twitter ranging from the heartbroken to the sceptical. Fans of Swift's music are hopeful the split will provide 'fodder' for her musical career.
The couple, often referred to as "Hiddleswift", began dating in June, prompting widespread interest from the media. The split was reportedly "amicable", according to US Weekly, which suggests that media attention may have contributed to the break-up.
It adds that Swift was uncomfortable with public displays of affection, but Hiddleston "didn't listen to her concerns". Despite the two seeming very affectionate in public – they were photographed canoodling on beaches and Hiddleston even sported an "I Heart Taylor Swift" t-shirt – some speculated that the relationship was just a publicity stunt.

They were last reported to have spent time together in mid-August after Swift sent her plane to pick Hiddleston up from Australia where he was filming the latest Thor movie.
Whatever the true nature of their relationship or the real cause of the split, the news has prompted an immediate response on Twitter.
Some were shocked.
Others were devastated.
Some suggest that Swift's former boyfriend, Calvin Harris, will be celebrating.
While some predict the break-up will inevitably provide fodder for Swift's musical career.
One poet has even suggested some lyrics.
But for many, the break-up has confirmed their belief that the whole thing was a stunt from the beginning.
