Luxury Italian menswear label Ermenegildo Zegna has launched its latest global store in London at 37-38 New Bond Street – a return to the exact location of its first boutique in the capital, which opened in 1987.

Founded in 1910 in Trivero, in Italy's Biella Alps, Ermenegildo Zegna's vision was to source premium fibres in order to ethically create the world's finest, most innovative textiles. Today, the business is managed by the fourth generation of the family and, while there are now 524 Zegna stores worldwide, fabric development remains at the heart of the brand.

The new store, which is some 6,500sq-ft in size, was designed by celebrated architect Peter Marino and the full range of its luxurious menswear collections are strategically divided across four floors. The ground floor is dedicated mostly to textile accessories, refined leather goods and casual tailoring, while the first floor is given over to informal ready-to-wear clothing and accessories.

Moving up, the focus is on formalwear and couture collections, while, on the third floor, customers can experience the Su Misura made-to-measure tailoring service in an intimate space that includes a vintage bar from the 1950s and artwork reflecting the brand's heritage of Italian craftsmanship.

In addition, and in response to the growing trend for personalisation, Alessandro Sartori has unveiled a new bespoke shoe collection handcrafted by British shoemakers Gaziano & Girling and exclusively available at the New Bond Street store.

While the interior speaks of quiet luxury, the exterior focuses more on the brand's history, as the founder's granddaughter, Anna Zegna, describes: "We decided to take inspiration from two ram heads, which were designed by an Italian architect in the 1930s for the house of our grandfather and stood next to the mill in Trivero. So while the original ones were made from granite, ours, on the store's facade, are in bronze."
