Tom Aikens to open in Birmingham
The celebrated chef is bringing seasonal comfort food to the Midlands, with the first UK Tom's Kitchen outside London
Tom Aikens's mini-chain of restaurants under the Tom's Kitchen moniker have proved a great success, with five outposts in London, including a restaurant and deli within Somerset House and a bar/deli on HMS Belfast, as well as international branches in Istanbul and Dubai. But the celebrity chef has yet to travel beyond the capital in the UK – until now.
Due to launch in time for Christmas, the new restaurant, bar and deli will open in The Mailbox in Birmingham, the latest upmarket addition to the fast-evolving Midlands dining scene.
It promises to continue the group's relaxed take on British classics, with a mix of some of its popular signature dishes as well as some exclusive to the city. Expect well-executed staples such as fish and chips, Angus cross chateaubriand steak and sticky toffee pudding, alongside more unusual flavours, including spiced pumpkin with burrata (soft Italian cheese), served with a savoury granola and hazelnut dressing.

The restaurant will offer a weekend brunch menu, with indulgent options including truffle eggs Benedict and Tom's Full English, while for quicker bites the Tom's Kitchen Deli will be serving express options for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks.
It is the latest much-anticipated opening in Birmingham, which, as home to one of the largest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants outside London, is fast becoming a foodie hotspot. Aikens joins esteemed company such as Adam Stokes, whose establishment Adam's opened in January to rave reviews, alongside well-regarded stalwarts of the city's fine-dining scene such as Purnell's and Simpsons.
