PSG fan hit by Thiago Motta's car in Paris – video

After Barcelona sensationally knocked Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League things have gone from bad to worse for Thiago Motta, who has been accused of running over a furious fan in his car.

The Brazil star, who travelled to Barcelona but did not make the team, was one of several PSG players confronted by furious fans when the players arrived back in Paris early on Thursday morning.

He was picked up by his wife Francisca at Paris Le Bourget airport at around 5am, reports the Daily Mirror. "Irate PSG fans surrounded the £80,000-per-week star's Porsche," says the paper, which adds that one was taken to hospital.

"Police have confirmed the man received medical attention in nearby St Denis for a back injury," says the Mirror.

"Their car was surrounded by a gang of angry PSG fans, who were giving Motta a piece of their mind," said a witness. "One of the fans was standing in front of the car, which lurched forward and hit him. He was taken to hospital. Other players were also being stopped as they tried to get home."

According to The Sun, there were not enough police at the airport and they "could not cover two exits simultaneously".

The French website RMC Sport says that PSG's security had to help police keep order and that defender Marquinhos had his vehicle "degraded" before the fans turned on Motta. The website adds that it's not clear if the supporter was hanging onto the car when it drove forward or if it hit him.

Footage of the scenes at the airport and the incident involving Motta's car soon appeared on YouTube, with the story adding to the French club's problems after its disastrous exit from Europe was greeted with horror by the French media.

The French newspaper L'Equipe awarded five of the PSG players two marks out of ten for their performances. The front page carried the headline "Unspeakable", reports the Sun.

"Le Monde's headline translated to 'Failure of Too Much', describing the game as one of the 'worst fiascos' in French football history," says the paper. "Local Paris paper Le Parisien spared no sympathy for any of the players either, going with the headline 'All Guilty'."
