Tesla launches coffee machine-equipped Model S fleet for mobile repair service
Technicians will be able to identify 90% of problems via over-air software scans
Tesla has introduced a mobile repair service in the UK. A fleet of bespoke Model S saloons have been kitted out with workshop tools so that customer repairs can be carried out on site.
The fleet of ten repurposed Model S electric cars look almost identical to the standard models, although Autocar says the rear seats have been removed and instead replaced with a “suite of tools on a rack of sliding trays”.
Tools include a “compressor and charger for power tools”, the magazine says, along with a built-in coffee machine.

At the moment Tesla has only a pair of bespoke Model Ss for the mobile repair service, says Alphr, but that number is expected to grow to ten “over the coming months”.
The service itself will allow Tesla customers - both new and old - to have their vehicle repaired without visiting a repair centre, the tech site says. This will include fixes carried out under warranty, while no-warranty repairs are completed on a “cost per job basis”.
What's more, the company will carry out over-the-air software diagnostics that can identify 90% of issues before a technician heads out to the affected vehicle, says Auto Express. And if there’s no one to greet the technician when they arrive, the car’s owner can remotely unlock the vehicle to allow access.
In the future, Tesla will allow drivers to schedule service and repairs through the sizeable touchscreen infotainment system in its cars, the mag says. There are even plans to allow drivers to “record strange noises”, which can be sent to a technician over the internet for analysis.
