The 5 best automatic coffee makers
Wake up the right way!

Editor's note: Every week The Week's editors survey product reviews and articles in websites, newspapers, and magazines, to find cool and useful new items we think you'll like. We're now making it easier to purchase these selections through affiliate partnerships with certain retailers. The Week may get a share of the revenue from these purchases
1. Technivorm Moccamaster ($309)
"Most people in the coffee scene consider this the best home brewer on the market," says Cale Guthrie Weissman at The Sweethome. But you can get virtually the same performance — and "the same great-tasting coffee" from either of the next two options, and for a lot less money. Buy it at Amazon.

2. Bonavita 8-Cup ($180)
A standard-bearer at a lower price tier, the Bonavita now uses flat-bottomed filters for better ground saturation. We "still have a quibble," though, says an editorial at Cook's Illustrated: After the coffee brews, you have to remove the thermal carafe just to put its top on. Buy it at Amazon.
3. OXO On 9-Cup ($200)
For the slightest drop in flavor, you can choose a machine that's "better in every other respect" than the Bonavita, says Weissman at The Sweethome. The OXO is far easier to operate and clean, adjusts to the amount of coffee you're making, and has a carafe that keeps coffee warm much longer. Buy it at Amazon.

4. Electrolux Expressionist Thermal ($150)
This new contender in the Bonavita's price range "looks good on paper," says Tyler Lizenby at CNET. Beyond the eye-catching compact design hide a broad shower-head, a detachable water tank, and a heating element that promises optimum water temperature. Buy it at Amazon.
5. Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable ($35)
Long the top-selling coffee maker at Amazon, this machine has slipped a bit on temperature precision, but it's still attractive and easy to use, and for some, that's enough, says Benji Walklet at The Coffee Concierge. A thermal carafe is sold separately. Buy it at Amazon.
