Today’s back pages: Liverpool’s ‘Miracle of Anfield’, Barcelona’s ‘debacle’
A round up of the sport headlines from UK newspapers on 8 May
It really was a miracle result. Liverpool needed to score four times against Barcelona to reach the Uefa Champions League final and they did just that on the most memorable night ever at Anfield.
Trailing 3-0 from the first leg of the semi-final Jurgen Klopp’s side turned on the style to beat the Spanish giants 4-0 on the night, 4-3 on aggregate.
The miracle theme features heavily on today’s newspaper back and front pages. It was the “Miracle of Anfield” says The Times, Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror. While The Daily Telegraph calls it a “Mersey miracle”.

The Guardian goes a different direction by declaring Liverpool’s performance as “out of this world”. i Sport hails the “comeback kings” and Metro’s front page screams “Kop that!”.
Catalan newspaper Diari Ara does not hold back by calling the result a “debacle” for Barcelona and star man Lionel Messi. Spanish paper Marca was equally as damning with its “historical failure” headline.
