Today’s back pages: Marco gets the ‘Silva bullet’ at Everton
A round up of the sport headlines from UK newspapers on 6 December
Everton sack Silva
“Silva bullet” is the headline of choice for the majority of today’s newspapers following Marco Silva’s sacking as Everton manager.
The Toffees gave Silva his marching orders after Wednesday’s 5-2 loss at rivals Liverpool left the club in the Premier League relegation zone.
Silva’s reign at Goodison Park lasted 18 months and his departure leaves the Merseysiders searching for their fourth permanent manager since Roberto Martinez was sacked in May 2016.

Former striker and first-team coach Duncan Ferguson has been placed in temporary charge and his first match in the Goodison dugout will be the home clash against Chelsea tomorrow lunchtime (12.30pm, live on BT Sport 1).
An Everton statement said: “Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the club. Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and the board of directors would like to thank Marco for his service over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.
“Duncan Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the first team and will manage the side for the game against Chelsea on Saturday. The club aims to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.”
The Daily Mirror reports that former boss David Moyes is odds-on favourite to replace Silva. The Times and Sky Sports say that Shanghai SIPG head coach Vitor Pereira has also emerged as an early candidate for the job.
