Bayern Munich sack Carlo Ancelotti after defeat against PSG
Ex-Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel is the early favourite to take over
After Bayern Munich received a 3-0 hammering by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last night, manager Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked.
The Italian had only been Bayern manager for 15 months after replacing Pep Guardiola last summer, but the defeat in France left club officials with a decision to make.
Following the loss against PSG, Sky Sports reported that Bayern’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge called for “consequences”.

Rummenigge told FCBayern.tv: “It’s a loss we have to talk about, we have to analyse, from which we have to draw consequences in clear text form.
“I think what we saw this evening was not Bayern Munich. I think we all agree on that. If I take a look to the right or left, then there is nothing to misunderstand or to interpret wrong.
“I think it’s important to turn things around after this loss, to present as Bayern Munich and to show we are a team which performed well in Europe and in Germany last year. That’s where we have to continue.”
In a statement, the club said: “Following an internal analysis in Munich on Thursday 28 September 2017, FC Bayern München have announced the club is to part company with head coach Carlo Ancelotti with immediate effect.
“Assistant coach Willy Sagnol will take charge of the team on an interim basis.”
The Daily Mail says that former Borussia Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel is the early favourite to take over, while The Guardian names Hoffenheim’s Julian Nagelsmann as one of the contenders for the job.
Domestically, Bayern have not had the best of starts in the Bundesliga. After six games they are in third place in the table - six points behind leaders Dortmund. This month, they have lost 2-0 against Hoffenheim and were held to a 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg.
Star goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is out until the new year through injury and Thomas Muller’s lack of game time has been a major concern for supporters and media. Ancelotti came under fire last night for leaving Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Mats Hummels on the bench for the clash against PSG.
Bayern travel to Hertha Berlin in the league on Sunday (2.30pm UK time).
