Carabao Cup: Spurs were ‘arrogant’ in loss to West Ham, says Redknapp

West Ham United will be in the hat for today’s Carabao Cup quarter-final draw after staging a stunning comeback to beat London rivals Tottenham 3-2 at Wembley Stadium.

The Hammers were two goals down at half-time following goals by Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli for Spurs.

But a double by Andre Ayew and a header by Angelo Ogbonna in the second half capped a wonderful comeback to shock the Wembley faithful.

Following the match, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp criticised Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s performance and claimed his team had become complacent after demolishing Liverpool at Wembley last weekend.

Redknapp said: “I’d go as far as to there was too much arrogance from Tottenham. They got all the plaudits, and rightfully so, after Sunday - they were fantastic and outworked Liverpool in every department.

“But [the] performance was a shocker. To go from being two goals up and completely in control to losing the game showed signed of arrogance and complacency.”

The League Cup defeat also increases the pressure on Pochettino, says Former Spurs midfielder Redknapp, with the side still yet to lift a trophy under his leadership.

“With the players he has got, it won’t be long until he’s judged on what he’s won,” said Redknapp.

“Tottenham are one of the best clubs around at the moment but that second-half performance was not up to scratch.

“You could say that this competition is the last of Pochettino’s priorities but it’s not, this is a great marker to put down. With a trophy in the bank, it could have provided a feel-good factor for the rest of the season to go on and win more.”

Meanwhile, under-pressure West Ham boss Slaven Bilic told the BBC that yesterday’s result will provide a “big boost” for his club.

Bilic said: “To score three goals against them [Spurs] - who do not concede goals - then be brave and compact and good on the ball, we deserved it and it is a big boost for us.

“I am calm and glad when we win in this way. You see the team is very alive and we are very stubborn in a positive way.”

In last night’s other fourth-round tie, Chelsea progressed to the last eight, with a 2-1 home win over Everton - who had caretaker boss David Unsworth in the dugout following Ronald Koeman’s sacking earlier this week.

Antonio Rudiger and Willian put Chelsea two goals up, before a late strike by Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the Toffees.

Afterwards Unsworth told BBC Radio 5 live: “I’m a bad loser but I have to say I’m proud of the performance, they were terrific. It was a committed performance. Hopefully, we’ll show that in every game I am in charge.”
