After crashing out last year for Sauber on his Monaco Grand Prix debut Leclerc is aiming for a more positive result when in Ferrari red this weekend.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s race Leclerc said: “A home grand prix is always a very special weekend and even more this weekend, obviously. Coming here in full red with Ferrari, with also a chance to have a very good result, so we’ll push.
“It’s a huge honour for me to be driving on these streets. It’s actually pretty weird, because these are the same streets I took in the bus to go to school when I was five or six years old. So now to take them in a Formula 1 car feels special.”
Ricciardo ready to kick-start season
Daniel Ricciardo won the 2018 Monaco GP with Red Bull but he returns to Monte Carlo this year as a Renault driver.
The Australian has not had the best of starts with his new team but he told Sky Sports that he hopes Monaco can kick-start his season.
“I’m enjoying it, I really am,” Ricciardo said on life with Renault. “I’d love to get better results but as an environment I am enjoying it. So hopefully a little special weekend here will kick things off nicely.”
Danke, Niki
The Monaco Grand Prix comes just days after the passing of Niki Lauda. Teams and drivers are paying tribute to the three-time world champion, who died on Monday at the age of 70.
Formula 1 bosses have not confirmed their plans for a tribute but Reuters reports that a minute’s silence is likely before Sunday’s race.
Here’s how the teams and drivers are honouring the motor sport legend.
