Ferrari 812 Superfast breaks cover ahead of Geneva debut

Ferrari has taken the wraps off its highly anticipated F12 Berlinetta replacement – and there are claims it's the most powerful front-engined car the Italian brand has ever produced.

Called the 812 Superfast, the new supercar houses a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine that produces a colossal 789bhp and 530lb-ft torque – 49bhp and 20lb-ft more than the regular F12. That's enough to launch the aptly-named Superfast from 0 to 62mph in 2.9secs and on to a top speed of 211mph.

A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox helps direct the power towards the rear axle, while the rear wheels also direct the car using the company's second-generation virtual short wheelbase steering system.

The Italian car firm says the design has been inspired by its 1969 365 GTB4, which can be seen with a high tail and sloping rear roofline.

While its design may hark back to Ferrari GTs of old, the Superfast's bodywork incorporates several aerodynamic devices.

The front bumper houses an array of winglets that can be electronically manipulated to generate more grip at higher speeds and there are two air outlets at the rear that improve aerodynamic down force.

Inside, the Superfast features a cabin that resembles Ferrari's latest models. But the firm has introduced sportier seats and a sculpted centre console that houses the car's launch control and transmission buttons.

There's no word on pricing yet, but Ferrari will release more details when it debuts the 812 Superfast at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
