DJ Tim Westwood denies multiple sexual misconduct allegations

DJ Tim Westwood has been accused of sexual misconduct against multiple women in incidents dating back as far as 1992.

Three women have accused the radio and TV presenter, now 64, of opportunistic and predatory sexual behaviour. A further four alleged that Westwood groped them at events at which he was performing.

The seven women spoke to The Guardian and BBC News as part of a joint investigation into the former Radio 1 DJ. The unnamed women, who are all black, were said to have been in their late teens or early 20s when the alleged incidents occurred.

None “had reported their interactions to the police”, the newspaper said. But they “decided to tell their stories in the aftermath of anonymous allegations of inappropriate behaviour about Westwood circulating on social media in June 2020”.

During interviews on BBC Three documentary Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power, which aired last night, three of the women said they had each arranged separately to meet Westwood in London to discuss working in the music industry.

The trio, who were reportedly 17, 19 and 20 at the time, all claimed that he took them to a flat and initiated unwanted sex.

Four further women accused Westwood of touching their bottoms or breasts as they posed for photographs with him at different events.

Westwood has strenuously denied all the allegations, which a spokesperson described as completely false.

After allegations about the DJ’s behaviour first surfaced on social media two years ago, under the hashtag #SurvivingTimWestwood, he issued a statement to HuffPost UK, saying that he was “aware of attempts by anonymous sources to make fabricated allegations online”.

“I can confirm that such allegations are false and without any foundation,” he said.
