A woman has been reunited with the wedding ring she lost in a potato patch in the Western Isles 50 years ago. Peggy MacSween had given up hope of ever seeing it again after it slipped off her finger while she gathered potatoes at her home on Benbecula. Hearing of the loss, a fellow islander set out to find it with a metal detector. After searching for three days and digging 90 holes, Donald MacPhee unearthed it and reunited it with his owner.
Manager wins ‘world’s worst customer’ claim
A shop manager who stood up to “world’s worst customer” has won an unfair dismissal claim. Garry Hardy, a 60-year-old store manager at Topps Tiles, had been serving a “large, loud and aggressive” man who was demanding a discount after wrongly claiming his order was late in 2019. The customer hurled foul-mouthed insults before demanding a refund as he became “increasingly aggressive” and threatening. Hardy, who was subsequently fired for standing up to the man, has won his claim.
