Luis Suarez in £100m Man City transfer rumour

Could Luis Suarez be set for a second bite of Premier League action? Manchester City are said to be after his signature, while in the red half of Manchester the future of United goalkeeper David De Gea is again causing excitement.

•ŸŸ According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are "considering a £100 million bid to buy Luis Suarez". The ravenous Uruguayan scored both Barcelona's goals in their 2-1 defeat of the Sky Blues last week but the Mail claims that despite Suarez's success the Spanish giants "would like to move the striker on". Why, the paper doesn't elaborate, but it does say that City are aware of Barcelona's intentions and are ready to pay the astronomical asking price as they look to beef up their strikeforce for next season. There is, of course, a stumbling block, namely that Barca remain under a transfer embargo until 2016 following irregularities in their Financial Fair Play dealings. But the Mail says City will wait and it might even be a case of "a straight swap" with Sergio Aguero going to the Camp Nou in exchange for Suarez.

Ÿ• Liverpool have made Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi "their first choice" to replace Steven Gerrard at Anfield. That's the claim made in Metro, the paper reporting that the 24-year-old is out of favour at the Bernabeu. Though he's been linked with a return to his former club Real Sociedad, Metro says the Reds have held "preliminary talks" with Madrid over a £17.5m deal and the holding midfielder is expected to head to England this summer. Real boss Carlo Ancelotti turned down a £15m offer from Athletic Bilbao in the January transfer window but it's believed Real will expected Liverpool's bigger bid.

Ÿ• The Daily Star says that Manchester United "are set for crunch talks" with the agent of David De Gea this week. Jorge Mendes, described by the paper as "influential", will supposedly jet in to Manchester to demand a new £140,000-a-week contract for the 24-year-old goalkeeper. That £7.28 million-a-year deal would, says The Star, turn De Gea into the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world. But it's reported that the obstacle to the deal being signed is the buy-out clause: apparently United value their world-class keeper at £50m but Mendes wants the clause lowered to £35m, fearing that the higher sum might deter Real Madrid from making any future bid for De Gea.
