Former Argentina team captain and FIFA's co-Player of the 20th Century Diego Maradona announced his candidacy for president of FIFA Sunday, journalist Víctor Hugo Morales tweeted in Spanish.

"He told me he is going to be a candidate for FIFA president and authorized me to communicate that," the tweet reads in translation.

Maradona is a longtime critic of president Sepp Blatter, who announced his resignation after several high-ranking FIFA officials were indicted by the U.S. on charges of corruption last month. But Blatter has reportedly since said he might not step down in December, after all.
