Because no winning tickets were sold for Wednesday night's Powerball jackpot worth an estimated $500 million, officials say Saturday's jackpot will shatter records to become the largest in U.S. history at an estimated $675 million.
The biggest jackpot ever was $590.5 million for the May 18, 2013, drawing, CBS Boston reports. A Powerball jackpot hasn't been won since Nov. 4, 2015, and Wednesday's jackpot was the biggest since players in North Carolina, Texas, and Puerto Rico split a $564.1 million prize last February. Wednesday's winning numbers were 2, 11, 47, 62, and 63, with a Powerball of 17.
For those who want to try their luck — and aren't discouraged with the odds of winning being 1 in 292.2 million — Powerball tickets can be purchased in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
