Defense Secretary Ash Carter will not further discipline former CIA director Gen. David Petraeus, The Washington Post reports. Petraeus resigned in 2012 amid a sex scandal with his biographer. In 2015, he pleaded guilty in federal court to mishandling classified information and was sentenced to two years of probation and a $100,000 fine.
"Given the Army's review, Secretary Carter considers this matter closed," the assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs wrote in a Friday letter obtained by the Post.
Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Petraeus could have faced Army charges for his actions even though he had left for the CIA in 2011.
