After Ted Cruz thumped Donald Trump in Wisconsin Tuesday, robbing the GOP frontrunner of badly needed delegates, Republicans are now bracing for a contested convention in July, under the expectation that no candidate will reach the 1,237 delegate majority required to lock in the nomination.
Trump's campaign manager told The Washington Post Wednesday that they would be hiring "seasoned operatives" and "well-known, established names" in anticipation of a showdown in Cleveland. Trump is also clearly eyeing his home state of New York for a major win in its April 19 primaries.
Cruz, meanwhile, is struggling to fully unite the Republican Party in a "stop Trump" movement. "Neither I nor very many of the people I know are enamored with Ted Cruz, and I think that everyone is hoping it is a brokered convention where we can have a third choice," billionaire GOP donor Frank VanderSloot said.
