North Korea appears to fire a ballistic missile

North Korea appeared to fire a ballistic missile near a coastal town Saturday, South Korea's Defense Ministry said. It's not clear how far it flew or where it landed.

The isolated nation has been firing into the sea to protest recently toughened sanctions over nuclear and long-range rocket tests, The Associated Press reports. North Korea is also said to be working on firing underwater ballistic missiles, which are harder to detect before launch than those on land.
