During rush hour in Istanbul on Tuesday morning, a car bomb exploded in front of a bus carrying riot police, killing seven police officers and four civilians, Istanbul Gov. Vasip Sahin said. Three of the 36 people wounded in the blast were in serious condition, he added. The blast, which overturned the bus and damaged nearby buildings, came from an explosives-packed car, detonated remotely to target police, Sahin said, and he declined to speculate who was behind the attack. In recent months, both the Islamic State and militants associated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have taken responsibility for deadly bomb blasts, but so far nobody has claimed this attack. The explosion was near a busy intersection near an Istanbul University building, and the university canceled exams.
