HBO revealed in May that former Daily Show host Jon Stewart might be back on television with a new show in time for the November election. Now, we have confirmation he'll be on air for as much as two months of campaign commentary.
Stewart's new project, an animated take on current events, is on track to debut early this fall, said Casey Bloys, HBO's chief of programming, on Saturday. "It's an animated parody of a cable news network. It's Onion-like, with video and text," Bloys revealed. "It's very much Jon's voice and tone," and will be somewhat similar to the animated Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton characters used on Stephen Colbert's Late Show.
Stewart has a four-year contract with HBO, and the show is expected to evolve over that period. As for the release timeline, Bloys said, "My hope is that it will be up and running by September or October."
