This animated movie about a talking hot dog has a higher Rotten Tomatoes rating than 42 Best Picture winners
Beloved classic movies like The Sound of Music and The Shawshank Redemption are being blown out of the water (critically, anyway) by a film about ... a talking hot dog.
The Seth Rogen-helmed comedy, Sausage Party, is so well reviewed that if you were to judge by its Rotten Tomatoes score alone, it would be a favorite for winning an Oscar for Best Picture. At the time of publication, Sausage Party holds a 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes with glowing praise like, "Consistently hilarious, even borderline genius, and the most fun you'll have in a cinema this year" and "There is nothing redeemable about Sausage Party, other than how hard it made me laugh." That makes it a better rated film than 42 past Best Picture winners.
So, what exactly is it about? The New York Times describes Sausage Party as "the story of a supermarket hot dog who leads other products on a quest to understand the true nature of their fate when they leave the store — they will be sliced, diced, and devoured by humans. Mr. Rogen voices Frank, the hot dog, and Kristen Wiig plays his love interest, Brenda, a bun. Much double (and sometimes single) entendre humor ensues." Well, of course.
