Amazon expands cashier-less Go store to Chicago

If you crave a shopping experience with no human interaction whatsoever, fear not: Amazon understands.

The e-commerce giant opened a cashier-less Amazon Go store in Chicago on Monday. The opening marks the first Go store to exist outside of Amazon's home city of Seattle, The Verge reports. The Chicago location is housed in the same building as Amazon's Chicago office, per the Chicago Tribune.

The Go store uses hundreds of cameras and sensors to track what people are buying, in lieu of actual humans. All transactions are conducted via the Amazon Go App, per The Verge. Despite having no need for cashier workers, the Amazon Go store still employs people to take deliveries, stock shelves, and help customers, the Tribune writes.

The Chicago location is the fourth Amazon Go store, with the previous three opening in Seattle beginning in 2016. Amazon is considering expanding the Go store to Los Angeles and San Francisco, The Verge writes.
