Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, Harry Styles to co-chair 2019 Met Gala
Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, Harry Styles, and Alessandro Michele are joining Vogue editor Anna Wintour as co-chairs of the 2019 Met Gala.
The theme is "Camp: Notes on Fashion," based on Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp.'" Michele, the creative director of Gucci, told Vogue that Sontag's essay "perfectly expresses what camp truly means to me: The unique ability of combining high art and pop culture." The annual gala in New York City will be held on May 6, ahead of the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institution's exhibit of the same name.
Wintour has co-chaired every gala since 1995, inviting different celebrities to assist her every year. Lady Gaga has made headlines throughout her career for outrageous outfits, including the meat dress she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, while Williams has collaborated with HSN and Nike and recently launched her own fashion line. Styles rose to fame with the boy band One Direction, and it's entirely possible he was chosen because of his last name.
